"My name is John Clinton. Right now, I am 21 years old. I remember back in 2016 when I was staying with my father in South B, in an area called Kayaba. Due to the physical abuse, I had to leave home for the streets. I ended up in the Gikomba market.
I came to know of the MADE IN THE STREETS programs in Eastleigh through a friend. I started attending the programs and, soon enough, with persistence and determination to change, I realized I still had a dream to study despite living on the streets.
MADE IN THE STREETS took me in and gave me a chance for redemption. They ensured I completed my primary education and gave me the full support I needed all through this journey. After completing my primary education, they opened an opportunity for me to move to another level—secondary education. I happily accepted.
Though I loved studying, I encountered numerous challenges. I found it hard to fit into a different school where my story wasn’t judged. Some of my friends did not believe me, while others used my story to make fun of me. I also found it difficult not to forget who I once was and what I was working for. Countless times, I wished I was like them—from rich families.
The only gift, or let’s say advantage, I had was that I had MITS’ love, care, and family support, which encouraged me to never, ever, ever give up. And that was all I needed.
I have now completed my secondary studies, and through MITS’ prayers, I managed to qualify for university.
All Glory be to God."
