Once your visit to Made in the Streets has been approved, it's time to plan!

Whether you're coming alone or with a large group, on a two week visit or for a year, you'll find everything you need here, from immunization and malaria information to visa help and a packing list.

There are three types of visitor to Made in the Streets: Mission Trip, Mission Specialist, and Intern. The type of visitor you are determines how you prepare for your visit to Kenya. Scan through the sections below and pay special attention to the sections that pertain to your specific visitor type. All visitors (including interns), please read the Visitor Code of Conduct to understand what is expected of your for the duration of your stay with us in Kenya.

INTERN CODE OF CONDUCT
Interns, please read this in addition to the Visitor Code of Conduct. As an intern, you're a volunteer staff member for the duration of your time with us in Kenya. As such, here are a few responsibilities and expectations that are specific to your role.

VISITOR WAIVER & BACKGROUND CHECK

At least two months prior to your arrival, please print, sign, and NOTARIZE the Visitor Waiver. (Notaries can be found at most banks.) Then send the completed waiver to MITS' United States headquarters:

Effective August 1st, 2017, all visitors to Made in the Streets are required to undergo a background check. The check is carried out online, through MITS' online partner. Upon approval of your trip, you will be sent a link to start your background check. You are responsible to pay the $20 processing fee.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

MITS requires that all visitors purchase travel insurance. This service covers you in the event of travel mishaps large and small—from lost luggage to sudden serious illness interfering with travel. One company we have used in the past is International Medical Group (IMG) but we encourage you to choose the company that is best for you and your team.

PAY YOUR
​MISSION TRIP FEE
At least two months prior to your arrival date, submit payment for your MITS visitor fee in the amount of $400/week (as of 2017). Payment can be made online using the button below.
PAY VISITORS FEE
If you prefer to submit your mission trip fee by check, please mail it to our Franklin, TN, address (listed in the gray footer area of this site). Please make sure the visitor's name is included along with the payment, so we can maintain accurate records.

FUNDRAISE YOUR
​INTERNSHIP FEE
Your internship program fee has airfare, transportation and living expenses built into it. You'll be responsible for raising your internship fee, using Kindful, our online fundraising platform.

TRAIN FOR YOUR ROLE

As an intern, you've applied to put your skill set to work for a specific task while you're with us in Kenya. Find all the resources you need to support your particular role on The Hub, the intern resource section of our website.

Mission Trip team leaders and Mission Specialists work with Brad Voss (brad@madeinthestreets.org) to arrange travel dates. 
TYPE: INTERNS
CHOOSE YOUR TRAVEL DATES
Work with Dusty Breeding (dusty@madeinthestreets.org) to arrange your travel dates and MITS will purchase your airfare out of the intern fee you've fundraised. 
TYPE: ALL VISITORS

APPLY FOR YOUR KENYA VISA

At least a month before your trip (but after you have purchased your airline ticket), apply for and purchase your Kenya visa online.

Click "Visa Instructions" below for step by step guide to submit your application online via the Kenyan Embassy website. As part of the visa application process, you will need to upload a letter from MITS, stating the purpose of your visit. Click the "MITS Visa Letter .doc" button below to download the MITS Visa Letter Word document. You will have to modify the text to fit your trip (name, dates), save the file as a .PDF, and upload it in the "Upload additional documents" field of your application on the Kenyan Embassy website. 

Once the visa is approved, print and carry your visa with your passport at all times while traveling and in Kenya.

Though we plan for every flight to be on time and every connection to work perfectly, we also want to make sure you have a backup plan. Please PRINT this emergency contact information sheet (button below) and carry it with you when you travel. If there are any issues with your travel and airport pick up, these are the people to notify and advise you through next steps.
