Did you know Made in the Streets offers internships for college students (and college-aged individuals) with a desire to serve and a taste for adventure? There's more information on our Internships page, but in brief, here are the qualifications and requirements:
Recently we asked a few of our past interns what they learned, how they grew, and why YOU should apply to work with us as an intern: “Being a remote intern for Made in the Streets was a new experience for me and it was nothing but good! I was able to learn more about the organization and how much good work they are doing in Kenya. Even though I have not been to Kenya with MITS (yet), I was touched by the stories of students and staff. If God hasn't called you specifically to Kenya but you still want to be involved in MITS, then the remote social media internship is a perfect way to do just that!”

It smelled like earth and tasted of chai. It dressed in bright fabrics and knew the meaning of hospitality. It has lively music and busy streets, with chapatti on every corner and some of the best mangos around. Kenya. It was a place I’d never been, which felt new and exciting, but it also brought memories with it.
Dr. Chad Stephens had his work cut out for him when he agreed to visit our Eastleigh Centre and provide medical aid to street kids. Many children on the streets have dire needs—gangrene, raw flesh, wounds that are three years old, cleaned and dressed, again. Due to lack of access to clean facilities or knowledge of proper wound care, they'll return to the centre with these same festering wounds multiple times. Our Eastleigh Centre staff have basic first aid training and can provide wound care, but it is rare for a doctor to visit the centre.
June 30, 2015 This summer has been incredible, eye opening, challenging, encouraging, and wonderfully exhausting. After getting back from a month in Kenya, the Handmade Tour immediately started our 6 week stateside road trip. We are about two weeks in and it has been amazing. For 6 weeks we are totally dependent on the hospitality and generosity of friends, friends of friends of friends of second cousins, and crazy cool connections in order to sleep, shower, and promote Made in the Streets. We are in Morrilton, Arkansas, for the next 24 hours or so staying with a local boys and girls home. Today we got to canoe the Buffalo River with some of the kids and staff and it was just the absolute best. Each day I'm learning about the incredible Kingdom of God and what it means to be in this worldwide family, connected entirely because of the love and grace of our Lord. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this experience in some way. I am excited for the next 5 weeks and all the adventures, stories, and amazing encounters to come. The Handmade Tour is currently in Edmond, Oklahoma, and will be in the Oklahoma/Texas area for the next two weeks. If you're interested in scheduling an event with them, contact Shannon Jack.
The summer months are visitor season at MITS, as well as a time to welcome new students to Kamulu! It's exciting for our students and staff to have visitors because the students have new friends to play with and our staff members have helpers in the classroom and in the kitchen with the day to day tasks. Our groups who head out to the Eastleigh center also get to see the transformative power of Christ as He works through our Eastleigh staff.
To our visitors who will be joining us this summer (or already have), Karibu! Karibu is 'welcome' in Swahili, and the MITS family is ready to welcome you to Kamulu. We are also excited to welcome new students to the MITS campus! We have welcomed 15 new students - 7 boys and 8 girls - this month, and we look forward to seeing what God will do in their lives at MITS and after. Have you visited MITS before? Will you visit for the first time this summer or are you a seasoned vet? Tell us about your experience and how you saw God at work! Tell us what you're excited to do and to see. But most importantly, know that there is always a place for you in the family of Christ. Karibu! |
When you do this for 27 years, you're bound to pick up a few stories and lessons along the way. Thoughts, impressions, news, and highlights from our staff, visitors, donors, students and alumni.
