WE WANT EVERY STREET KID TO FEEL LIKE A KID AGAINSince 1995, MADE IN THE STREETS has been loving and serving children on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya. There are over 60,000 young people living on the streets, and it is our mission to help as many of them as possible. The environment of the street is polluted, dangerous & harsh. Mere daily survival is a struggle. We have a vision to offer hope to street kids.
WE ARE BUILDING A RETREAT CENTER.MITS owns 40 acres of countryside, east of Nairobi, in a region called Mountain View. This is an area of land that still feels wild; where giraffe herds still roam and the occasional hyena still explores. The air is fresh, the sun is bright, and the sounds of Nairobi feel far away. The space is about 30 minutes from our campus at Kamulu (about an hour from the outskirts of Nairobi).
Our plan is to build a retreat center where MITS can foster outdoor experiences for groups of our students and street kids. For a few hours up to a few days, these precious young boys and girls can forget the troubles of the streets, clear their heads from the fumes of glue and exhaust, and fill their bellies with nutritious food. Most importantly, we can fill their hearts with the good news that Jesus loves them and calls them His own. You might recall the meaningful camp experiences of your youth. Imagine the impact of a similar experience on a young person who lives on the streets. Our purpose in building Mountain View Retreat Center is to meet basic needs—shelter, food, safety—for a time, in order to meet deeper needs—love, dignity, human connection, & even joy. The land is already ours and building plans are currently underway! |
