LOCATION
Kamulu, Kenya |
TIMEFRAME
3 months |
DESCRIPTION:
Telling the story of the oppressed is critical to facilitating change. The MITS Advocacy Intern serves on the frontline of this process by increasing awareness and engagement regarding issues facing at-risk teens.
A MITS Advocacy Intern is in Kenya for 3 months. During that time, you will immerse yourself in the life of our students and staff in Kamulu. You’ll also visit the slums of Nairobi, meeting and hearing the stories of the at-risk teens in Kenya. This experiential learning will inform you as you communicate to the world about the issue of street children. In addition to your experience in Kenya, you’ll become an expert in issues facing at-risk teens around the world. Together with the MITS Advocacy Director, you’ll battle at the local, national, and international level with churches and communities to care for teens and street kids. Your voice will be their voice.
EXPECTATIONS:
1. Engagement with daily activities while in Kenya.
2. Write a monthly article for MITS regarding at-risk teens. Using your experience in Kenya, you will educate and offer engagement opportunities for MITS’ network of supporters and friends.
3. Bring awareness through regular social media storytelling.
4. Upon your return, you will lead two gatherings in your local community to raise awareness regarding at-risk teens.
All MITS interns are expected to work 30 hours each week. If your weekly duties do not add up to 30 hours of work, please make yourself available to our MITS staff for additional work assignments.
