Teacher's Aide INTERNSHIP

LOCATION
Kamulu, Kenya

TIMEFRAME
3 months

DESCRIPTION
As you have probably noticed, much of what we do at MADE IN THE STREETS involves education. When all is said and done, we are a school, and our students—all of whom are former street kids—are at the center of all our programs. As a Teacher's Aide, you will partner with us in the classroom to love and serve our students on a daily basis.

Teacher's Aides spend their days in the Learning Centre (where all our classes are held). As a Teacher's Aide, your duties might vary greatly throughout the week, which keeps your time with us exciting. Though this role requires flexibility, the primary function is the same: to assist our teachers and administrators. This might look different on different days. For example, a Teacher's Aide might:
  • tutor students one on one when they need extra attention or practice
  • assist teachers with projects
  • grade papers
  • supervise make up exams or spelling tests

EXPECTATIONS
1. Work with Phillip (the head teacher at the Learning Center) and the rest of the Learning Centre staff to establish your weekly schedule.
2. Write a monthly article, to be posted in the MITS blog, that highlights various aspects of your life in the classrooms and halls of the Learning Centre.

All MITS interns are expected to work 30 hours each week. If your weekly duties do not add up to 30 hours of work, please make yourself available to our MITS staff for additional work assignments.
Are you a professional teacher with five or more years of experience?
If you have several years of teaching under your belt, perhaps an internship isn't the right fit for you. We invite you consider visiting us and serving as a Mission Specialist. Mission Specialists are individuals with a specific skill set who offer their presence and expertise to help us improve our programs.

"God allowed me to stand in awe of His wonder and His glory for three months. I am still processing all the ways I was affected and changed by my time at MITS. One thing that is certain is that God has opened my eyes to new aspects of His wonders and beauty
in all aspects of His creation."
